Under grey skies and the threat of sleet… it feels like today, more than most, we need a bit of sun. Unable to do much about the weather we thought we’d share some sunflower photos from the archive instead.

Honeybees… we don’t share photos of these guys very regularly, partly because we’re way more interested in the many diverse characters among the wild bee species. However while the early spring bees like the hairy footed flower bees are a hard to photograph blur… we thought we’d share a few pics of a less camera shy honeybee.

The bee hotels are back up and we’re emerging from our winter hibernation here at Bee Saviour Behaviour HQ.

After months of being distracted from the most common bees in the UK… the air has gotten crisp and our hebe have gotten quieter. Time to post some common carder bees.

Every so often we take a photo that gets us all excited. We’ve never really captured a picture of a bee’s tarsal claws before… until now and these tarsal claws are such a fascinating part of a bee.

Only 10 days until the bee hotel survey closes… whether your bee hotel has been buzzing in 2021 or bafflingly unbusy it would be really valuable to our research to discover what’s been going on with your bee hotel through the simple online survey linked to in our profile.

Soooo we had an unexpected visitor. As September came to an end we were about to start the countdown to close our bee hotel survey when what should show up… a leafcutter bee. We hadn’t expected to see one of these so late in the summer… it was very actively nest building for a week before the autumn weather rolled in and it disappeared.

So excited it’s September… the month when our home town is peppered with pollinator parties at every ivy plant. Ivy bees are our main distraction though today the number of butterflies, hornet mimicking hoverflies and bumblebees at our favourite spot was extraordinary.

Bees and dinosaurs… so this is going to be a bit of a random post following a chain of thought about whether bees ever hung out with dinosaurs. It’s prompted by a @gogodiscover21 dinosaur hunt around #norwich and discovering this striking fella by artist Illona Clarke.

Wanted to share a quick purple post as we leave August and arrive into September.
